Finery London

Finery London by What Laura did Next
It's been a while since a new fashion brand has launched that has made me swoon, and whilst my COS obsession rages on, SS15 for me is all about Finery London. Born last year, Finery is an online womenswear brand with the aim to put the excitement back into shopping.

Founded by a group of power women in the fashion industry (ex ASOS and Topshop), the brand is offering luxe fabrics and chic cuts at VERY affordable price points.

This brand is right up my street, and I suggest (if you haven't already clicked on the link above) you should stop what you're doing, and take a peek right now.

Just don't blame me if you go a little shopping crazy like I did!

Finery London is available to buy on their website

Make Up Forever UK Launch

Make Up Forever UK Launch
Make Up Forever is launching in the UK this month. I can almost hear the squeals of beauty fans out there (it's been a long time coming).

I had a little preview at the Debenhams Summer Beauty press day, and got chatting to one of the lovely PR ladies from the brand, who introduced me to most of their products. I have to say I'm impressed and already have a large wish list including their HD Foundation, which is their best seller and most talked about product.

Make Up For Ever is the go-to brand for professionals around the world. Their products are made with innovative, high-tech formulas and the textures and sheer choice of colours are second to none.

Their product range probably couldn't be any bigger to be honest. They have everything from lipsticks to nail varnishes, makeup brushes to removers, foundations.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a couple of their products which, I will be reviewing very soon.

Make Up Forever Launches at Debenhams (Oxford Street, London) and online later this month. For more info, check out the brands website here

Debenhams SS15 Beauty by What Laura did Next
A few weeks ago, I popped along to the Debenhams Summer beauty press day to check out what they have in store for us over the next few of months.

Debenhams have an amazing beauty hall in their Oxford Street store in London. Bursting at the walls with more beauty brands and treatments than ever from the much loved and well-known to the new niche and exclusives.

After 'checking in' and travelling through the clouds, I had a little look at all the latest offerings Debenhams have for the Summer season. If you have a local store, pop in and see what's new and, head to their website as they have a number of beauty brands (like Burberry for example) that are only available online.

My highlight has to be the preview of the beauty brand everyone has been waiting for to hit the UK. Makeup Forever launches this month in Debenhams (online and in their Oxford Street store).

Pop in to your local store, or head online to see what's landing for Summer.

Small Batch Coffee Company

7 May 2015

I've never been a huge coffee drinker. For me, tea has always been my number 1, preferring decaff to the 'normal' stuff as well.

Until now.

You may have heard me mention Small Batch Coffee Company before on my Instagram or Twitter. They're an independent business who have a number of coffee shops dotted across Brighton and Hove, as well as two coffee vans outside both Brighton and Hove train stations (which is now my go to each morning for a latte!).

Just up the road from where I live, they have their roastary. Where each day they roast their own coffee ready to be sent to their own shops, distribute to various local restaurants and pubs and, ship to people across the country to drink in their own homes.

At the beginning of the year I was invited to take part in one of the courses, opting for the Latte Art class. Based in their Seven Dials branch which used to be a bank back in the day, the courses are based downstairs in the old bank vault, otherwise know as 'The Lab'.

To start, I learnt a little about where coffee comes from (berries? who knew!) and the flavours you get based on where it's grown. The lovely Laura (not me but the talented coffee trainer) showed me how to nail the perfect Espresso, without it tasting sour and gave me the low-down on all the coffee making lingo (agitation, cupping, etc).

The class was really hands-on - I got to use all the big, professional equipment that you see in all the coffee shops. Yes, it's harder than it looks but I got the hang of it pretty quickly and, was a pro by the end of it (totally my own opinion!).

The Latte art part of the class was great but who knew the steaming of the milk and the way you pour into the cups would be so difficult! I did manage to do a heart and a tulip but, the rosetta? That's one I need to practice a little more.

I left the class, 3 hours later with a huge spring in my step (totally coffee related) and, a completely new view on coffee (thanks Laura!). I also managed to make a great cup of coffee and now annoy the man of the house when I tell him he's doing it all wrong.

It turns out that (1). The Temperature of the cup, water and milk is very important and plays a big part in the making of the perfect cup (2). The banging of the milk jug you see baristas do isn't as dramatic as it seems - it actually helps turn the hot milk into magical, foamy liquid. (3). Too much coffee makes Laura (me this time) feel as though she's had 8 shots of Tequila. Probably best I stick to one cup a day I think!

If you're interested in taking a class, check it out here. I can't recommend it enough. Thanks to Laura and the team at Small Batch.

Flowers, Chocolate, My favourite new clothing brand and Coffee

April Favourites by What Laura did Next
PRETTY LITTLE THINGS
There's a cute little flower shop directly outside my train station which, I walk past twice a day. I LOVE flowers - they are the perfect pick me up when I've had a bit of a 'meh' day so I treated myself to some gorgeous Ranunculus (no, I can't pronounce it either) and Peonies to brighten my mood, and my flat up over the weekend.

FINERY LONDON
It's been a while since a new fashion brand has launched that has made me swoon. Finery London was born last year, and is an online womenswear brand with the aim to put the excitement back into shopping. They'll be a post up shortly, where I declare my love a little more.

BOOK: THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN
I ended up totally hooked on this book, and finishing it within the second week of April! I even almost missed my stop on the train one morning as I was totally engrossed. A must read.

ROASTED SESAME CHOCOLATE
Whilst this doesn't beat my all time favourite Sea Salt chocolate, Lindt's Roasted Sesame chocolate is the bee's knees. Grab a bar if you see it on the shelf in your local supermarket. You won't be disappointed.

SMALL BATCH COFFEE COMPANY
I popped along to my local (and favourite) coffee shop to do a Latte Art course at the beginning of the month. More on this very soon but it's safe to say, I had a blast and totes nailed the tulip!

Now, 2015 needs to slow down a little. Mainly because my big 'landmark' of a birthday is starting to come around very quickly and, I have so much to do!
